Spotlight on Figure Skating and Women's Ice Hockey on Day 2 in Beijing

BEIJING -- Day two of  Olympic action was featured on ice as figure skating and women’s ice hockey stole the spotlight.
 
Yale’s Nathan Chen, also known as the “Quad King”, was the name to know heading into the opening night of figure skating. In a nearly empty arena, Chen brought the energy as he gave a nearly flawless performance. He earned his highest score of the season, 111.71,  to help put Team USA in first place.
   
Switzerland took the ice again in their second contest of the Games against the Russian Olympic Committee. The Swiss fell 5-2 with Yale’s Phoebe Staenz and Harvard’s Keely Moy seeing 20:15 and 18:46 minutes of ice time, respectively. Staenz fired off six shots, while Moy fired off three.
 
The Chinese women’s ice hockey team earned their first win of the Games as they topped Denmark 3-1. Princeton’s Kimberly Newell is credited with the win as she tended to the goal for the entire duration of the match. Brown’s Maddie Woo contributed two shots in her 20 minutes of ice time.
