PRINCETON, N.J. -- After clinching their first Ivy League crown since 2020, Cornell swept the Ivy League major awards when the league’s awards were announced Wednesday morning.
Izzy Daniel won Ivy League Player of the Year,
Annelies Bergmann won Rookie of the Year, and
Doug Derraugh won Coach of the Year for a Big Red sweep.
Daniel finished the regular season tied as the third-highest scoring player in women’s ice hockey with 53 points and ranked second with 1.83 points per game. Of her team-best 20 goals and 33 assists, 9 goals and 17 assists came in Ivy League contests as the senior posted 2.6 points per game in league play. Daniel scored in all 10 Ivy League games and had a 14-game point streak to start the season.
Bergmann opened the year as Cornell’s starting goaltender and proceeded to start 23-of-29 games for the Big Red as a freshman. The newcomer played nearly 1,425 minutes in net, made 537 saves on a .927 save percentage, and posted a goals against average of 1.77. She was exceptionally strong in Ivy League play, posting a 8-1-0 record, a .929 save percentage, and boasting a 1.55 goals against average with 1 shutout.
Derraugh guided his Big Red to a 22-6-1 overall record and a 9-1-0 mark in Ivy League play, securing Cornell’s first Ivy League championship since 2020 and 16
th title overall. Derraugh has now led Cornell to eight Ivy League titles in 18 seasons on the bench of his alma mater.
Cornell had a league-high seven players named to the All-Ivy Teams, with
Grace Dwyer and
Rory Guilday joining Daniel as the two defenders on the All-Ivy First Team. Dwyer and Guilday totaled 34 points and a +30 rating on the year. Daniel was one of two unanimous selections with the other being Princeton’s
Sarah Fillier. Fillier made it 4-for-4, being named to the All-Ivy First Team for the fourth time in her career. Fillier posted a career-high 28 goals on the year, with 10 coming in Ivy League play. Yale’s
Elle Hartje, the 2022-23 Ivy League Player of the Year, rounded out the All-Ivy First Team forwards following a 12-goal, 38-point senior season.
Kaley Doyle of Brown was named the All-Ivy First Team goaltender after going 3-4-2, with a 2.00 goals against average and a .931 save percentage in Ivy League play. Doyle had 40-plus saves twice and a season-high 50 saves in an overtime loss to Cornell.
Cornell also paced the league with four Second Team All-Ivy selections, with
Lily Delianedis,
Karel Prefontaine,
Ashley Messier, and Bergmann earning Second-Team nods. Yale, who finished second behind Cornell in the Ivy League standings, placed
Anna Bargman and
Vita Poniatovskaia on the All-Ivy Second Team. It was Bargman’s second-straight selection to the All-Ivy Second Team. Completing the squad were Brown’s
Jade Iginla and Princeton’s
Issy Wunder.
