PRINCETON, N.J. – Highlighted by individual national titles in both men’s and women’s foil, the Ivy League delivered a standout performance at the 2026 NCAA fencing championships.
2026 NCAA FENCING CHAMPIONSHIP HIGHLIGHTS:
- Individually, Ivy fencers claimed both the men’s and women’s foil national titles. Harvard’s Jessica Guo captured the women’s crown, winning 20 of 23 round-robin bouts before securing her second NCAA title, while Columbia’s Sam Kumbla went 15-8 in round-robin before winning the men’s title. Guo became the fourth Ivy fencer to win the women’s foil title in the last five years, while Kumbla marked the third Ivy men’s foil champion in that span.
- Ivy League teams were well represented in the team standings, with seven top-five finishes across the men’s and women’s competitions. Columbia finished as national runner-up on both sides. On the women’s side, Princeton placed third, Harvard fourth, and Penn fifth. On the men’s side, Harvard finished fourth and Penn fifth.
- In total, 12 Ivy fencers advanced to national semifinals across all weapons, including an all-Ivy semifinal in women’s foil. Those semifinalists—who also earned First Team All-America honors—were Alexandra Lee (Princeton, women’s saber); Carolina Stutchbury (Columbia), Lucia Zhang (Harvard), Zander Rhodes (Columbia) and Jessica Guo (Harvard) in women’s foil; Hadley Husisian (Princeton), Ketki Ketkar (Cornell) and Nicole Xuan (Columbia) in women’s epee; Will Morrill (Columbia) and Colin Heathcock (Harvard) in men’s saber; and Sam Kumbla (Columbia) and Marsel Nagimov (Columbia) in men’s foil.
- Overall, 34 Ivy League fencers earned All-America honors with top-12 finishes.
