Five Unbeaten Teams Remain After Day One at Ivy League Fencing Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. - After a day full of action at Jadwin Gymnasium on the campus of Princeton University, five teams remain unbeaten in their pursuit of the 2026 Ivy League Fencing Championship. On the men’s side, Princeton finished the day 2-0 while Harvard won their lone match of the afternoon. Three teams are out in front on the women’s side with Columbia winning all four of their matches, while Harvard and Princeton each had a bye and finished the day 3-0.

The final day of the Ivy League Fencing Championships wraps up tomorrow with the women starting Round 5 at 9 a.m. The men pick back up at 2:15 p.m. with Round 3 of matches. Coverage begins on ESPN+ at 9 a.m. and runs through the awards ceremony which is set to start at 6:15 p.m.

MEN’S RECAP
Princeton finished day one 2-0 with decisions over Columbia (15-12) and Penn (17-10). Harvard won their only match of the day over Yale (19-8) before having a bye in Round 2. Columbia sits in third in the standings with a 1-1 record, falling to Princeton (12-15) before defeating Yale (15-12). Penn (0-1) and Yale (0-2) round out the standings after Day 1.

Harvard’s trio of Colin Heathcock, Taylor Chon, and Cody Ji sit atop the Men’s Saber standings at a perfect 3-0 for the day, with Heathcock holding the indicator tiebreaker to hold first place heading into Championship Sunday. Silas Choi of Princeton is close behind at 5-1 in the weapon after two matches of play. Roy Graham of Harvard holds the outright first-place lead in men's foil at 3-0 and fellow Crimson Henry Lawson is also in first place in men's epee, finishing 3-0 on the day.

WOMEN’S RECAP
Columbia won all four rounds on the day, sitting atop the table with a 4-0 record. The Lions defeated Brown (24-3), Penn (18-9), Cornell (21-6), and Yale (17-10) during Day 1 action. Harvard and Princeton both went 3-0 to tie for second, with Harvard’s decisions coming over Cornell (17-10), Brown (21-6), and Penn (23-4) while Princeton defeated Penn (21-6), Yale (14-13), and Brown (21-6). Yale and Brown each had one victory on the day, with Yale finishing fourth at 1-2 and Brown in fifth at 1-3. The Bulldogs defeated Penn (16-11) and the Bears beat Cornell (14-13).

Holding a day 1 lead in women’s saber is Yale’s Sophie Liu who went a perfect, 9-0, in the event. Harvard’s Zoe Kim and Princeton’s Honor Johnson finished action at 7-1 and 6-1, respectively, the only other athletes with only one loss on their records. Women’s foil has a quartet of unbeaten athletes after Saturday’s contests. Jessica Guo (Harvard), Maia Weintraub (Princeton), Emily Jin (Harvard), and Carolina Stutchbury (Columbia) each went 9-0 with Guo holding the first-place tiebreaker. In women’s epee, Cornell’s Ketki Ketkar sits alone in first place with an 8-1 record.
