Yale’s Yonjae Kim was named the Ivy League Men’s Rookie of the Year after helping the Bulldogs secure their best finish at the Ivy League Fencing Championships since 2019 last weekend. Kim posted a 7-2 record at the annual event on his way to claiming the individual men’s foil title. In team competition, he clinched a key victory for Yale in its match against Princeton.
Yale’s Sophie Liu delivered a historic performance at the Ivy League Championships, capturing the individual saber crown with a perfect 15-0 record in her weapon. Liu tallied 75 total touches over the weekend while surrendering just 33, finishing with a +42 indicator — the best mark of any fencer, men’s or women’s, at the event.
The Columbia coaching staff, led by Michael Aufrichtig, earned Men’s Coaching Staff of the Year honors and was named Women’s Co-Coaching Staff of the Year after sweeping both the men’s and women’s team titles. Columbia is ranked No. 1 in both midseason USFCA Coaches Polls. The women compiled a 25-1 dual-meet record this season, while the men posted a 21-3 mark. At the championships, six Ivies earned All-Ivy honors on the men’s side, and five garnered All-Ivy distinction on the women’s side.
The Harvard women’s coaching staff, led by Daria Schneider, shared Women’s Co-Coaching Staff of the Year honors after guiding the Crimson to a second-place finish in the women’s competition. Four Ivies earned All-Ivy First Team honors on the women’s side.
In addition to the major awards, the Ivy League recognized 12 Academic All-Ivy honorees for their achievements both in the classroom and on the strips. The honorees include Brown’s Alyssa Sun; Columbia’s Zeyad Nofal and Madison Four-Garcia; Harvard’s Henry Lawson and Zoe Kim; Penn’s Joseph Wu and Grace Hu; Princeton’s Brandon Lee and Maia Weintraub; and Yale’s Vinni Yu and Amanda O’Donnell.
