Harvard's Zhang, Princeton Extend Lead Following Second Round of Women's Golf Championship

NAPLES, FLA. — Following the second round of action at the Ivy League Women's Golf Championship, Harvard's Vanessa Zhang and the Princeton team extended their leads heading into tomorrow's third and final round.

Princeton, after a three-under-par Round 2, is sitting at two-under-par for the tournament. Penn broke a tie with Columbia by shooting an eight-over-par on the day, going into the final round one shot ahead of Columbia, two shots ahead of Dartmouth, and four shots ahead of both Yale and Harvard. Columbia shot nine-over on the day, while Dartmouth made up significant ground in their pursuit of a podium team finish, shooting one-over as a team on the day, bouncing back after a 13-over-par finish on Friday.

Zhang continued her stellar play from Friday, carding a bogey-free 67 in the second round, increasing her grip on medalist honors. Columbia’s Christine Chang and Penn’s Julie Shin sit in a tie for second place, six strokes back at -3. Chang carded a one-under-par day, overcoming an early bogey to rattle off four birdies in the middle of her round before a pair of bogeys put a damper on her pursuit of Zhang. Shin also had a strong middle of her round, carding birdies on holes seven, eight, and 10, but a bogey on 16 cancelled out her birdie on the final hole of the day.

The second-largest mover on the day, however, was Dartmouth’s Caroline Chung who used a four-under, 68 to move into a tie for fourth place at two-under-par for the championship. After shooting two-over-par on Friday, Chung, similar to Zhang, carded a bogey-free day, going nine straight holes with pars until closing with birdies on three of her final four holes. Chung finds herself tied with Princeton’s Victoria Liu, who shot two-under on the day. After an even par front nine, Liu knocked in an eagle on hole 10 and erased a bogey on hole 13 with a birdie on the 17th hole to finish up her round.

Liu is the clubhouse leader for Princeton, but the foursome of Liu (-2, T-4), Olivia Duan (-1, 6th, Abra Richmond (E, 7th), and Catherine Rao (+1, 8th) are all separated by just three strokes for the tournament. Duan had a very level-headed round, carding two birdies and one bogey to go along with 15 pars. Richmond and Rao’s rounds were a bit more adventurous, but at the end of the afternoon, both shot even-par 72s. Richmond opened with birdies on the first and third holes, only to string together four bogeys in the middle of her round. She regrouped, however, with five-straight pars before closing with consecutive birdies. Rao was three-over on the day through 12 holes, but a birdie on the 179-yard par three 13th got things rolling. She strung together another trio of pars before also closing with birdies on the last two holes to finish up an even-par 72 and move back to one-over for the tournament.

The teams return to Royal Palm Golf Club on Sunday to conclude the 2025 Ivy League Women’s Golf Championship.
