Harvard's Zhang, Princeton Lead After First Round of Women's Golf Championship

NAPLES, FLA. — After the first round of play in the 2025 Ivy League Women's Golf Championship, Princeton leads the team race with a score of +1 followed closely behind by Columbia and Penn at +4.

Conditions were near-perfect for scoring at Royal Palm Golf Club with slight winds as Harvard's Vanessa Zhang fired the low round of the day at -4 (68). Zhang started her round with consecutive birdies and closed with birdies on three of her last seven holes. Zhang helped Harvard to fourth place as a team with a score of +9, followed by Yale and Dartmouth, who concluded the first 18 holes at +12 and +13, respectively.

Zhang sits two shots clear of Columbia’s Christine Chang and three shots clear of both Julie Shin of Penn and Sarah Shao of Columbia. Chang also opened her round with two consecutive birdies, then parred the rest of the way to card a 70 on the day. Shin had four birdies on the front nine, but a double bogey on the 11th hole led her to a score of 71.

Princeton has four players in the top 10. Abra Richmond, YanJun Liu, and Olivia Duan each shot even-par 72s on the day, tying for fifth place, and Catherine Rao shot +1 to sit in a tie for eighth place. Richmond was cruising through her round until three bogeys in her final six holes brought her to even on the day. Inversely for Liu, a birdie-par-eagle close helped bring her back from three-over to finish at even.

Rounding out the top-10 were Penn’s Maggie Ni and Natalie Cao, who are tied with Rao at one-over-par.

The teams return to action tomorrow for the second round of play. Tee times begin at 9 a.m.
