Five Teams Remain Perfect After Day One at Ivy League Fencing Championships

PHILADELPHIA
 – Through day one at the Palestra for the 2025 Ivy League Fencing Championships, five teams are without a loss heading into Championship Sunday. On the men's side, Princeton finished Saturday's action 3-0 while Columbia went 2-0, and on the women's side, Princeton went 4-0 while Columbia and Harvard were 3-0.

The final day of the fencing championships wrap up tomorrow, with the men starting at 9 a.m. and the women at 12:15 p.m. The event will be streamed live on ESPN+ beginning at 9 a.m.
 

MEN’S RECAP 
Princeton finished the first day 3-0 with decisions over Yale (17-10), Penn (14-13) and Harvard (15-12). The Tigers sit atop the standings with their perfect record, followed by Columbia (2-0), Harvard (1-1), Penn (0-2) and Yale (0-3). Princeton claimed victories over Yale (17-10), Penn (14-13), and Harvard (15-12), and Columbia cliched two wins, the first over Penn, 17-10 and the next over Yale, 21-6.

Penn’s Antonio Heathcock is in first place through the opening day at 5-1 in men’s saber, while men’s foil is led by Columbia’s Samarth Kumbla at 6-0. Princeton holds the top-two spots in men’s epee by teammate Alec Brooke (8-1) and Nicholas Lawsom (7-1). 

 

WOMEN’S RECAP 
On the women’s side, the Tigers lead the way with a 4-0 mark in the team standings. Columbia (3-0) and Harvard (3-0) follow below and are tied for second. Princeton earned wins over Brown (23-4), Yale (20-7), Cornell (19-8) and Penn (18-9), Columbia defeated Yale (19-8), Penn (23-4) and Brown (17-10), and Harvard earned wins over Cornell (21-6), Brown (18-9), and Yale (19-8).
 

Individually, Princeton's Emese Domonkos and Alexandra Lee went 11-1 to sit on top of the women's saber standings. Other Tigers who showed strong performances on day one were Chin-Ye Kong (12-0) in women’s foil and Hadley Husisian (11-0) in women’s epee.
