Ivy League Fencing Rookies of the Year, Coaching Staffs of the Year Announced

PRINCETON, N.J. – Following the Ivy League fencing championships, additional awards were announced as Princeton’s Chin-Yi Kong was named the Ivy League women’s fencing Rookie of the Year, Columbia’s Will Morrill was named the men’s fencing Rookie of the Year, the Princeton coaching staff earned men’s coaching staff of the year accolades and the Harvard coaching staff garnered women’s coaching staff of the year honors.
 
Princeton’s Chin-Yi Kong, a foilist from San Mateo, California, had an outstanding showing at her Ivy League fencing championships debut, posting a 14-4 record to finish fourth in the women’s foil category and earn second team All-Ivy honors. Kong was perfect on day one of the event, going 12-0 over the course of Saturday’s action.   
 
Will Morrill, a first-year from New York City, earned the sabre crown, going 10-2 over the weekend for an .833 winning percentage, unanimously earning Ivy League Sabre Fencer of the Year honors.
 
The Princeton coaching staff, led by Zoltan Dudas, unanimously earned men’s coaching staff honors after leading the Tigers to a No. 1 national ranking and fourth-straight Ivy League men’s fencing coaching title. At the Ivy League Championships, the Princeton coaching staff mentored five Ivies to the All-Ivy teams including Alec Brooke (epee), Nicholas Lawson (epee) and Allen Chen (foil) to the first team.
 
In addition to the awards above, the Ivy League also announced its men’s and women’s fencing Academic All-Ivy awards, honoring individuals for their outstanding performance in the classroom and on the strips. On the women’s side, Brown’s Alexandra Tzou, Columbia’s Evelyn Cheng, Cornell’s Emma Ni, Harvard’s Chloe Williams, Penn’s Vivian Lu, Princeton’s Jessica Lin, and Yale’s Helen Tan were honored. On the men’s side, Columbia’s Justin Haddad, Harvard’s James Chen, Penn’s Simon Kushkov, Princeton’s Nicholas Lawson and Yale’s Vinni Yu earned the award.
