PRINCETON, N.J. - There were multiple champions in both the 2024 Ivy League men’s and women’s fencing championships with three-way ties atop both standings. Columbia, Princeton, and Penn finished the day with 5-1 records to claim Ivy League women’s fencing crown while Columbia, Princeton, and Harvard each went 3-1 on the men’s side to win the title.
WOMEN’S RECAP
Princeton won its 13
th overall Ivy League championship, Penn won its first Ivy League title in 20 years and 11th overall, and Columbia won its first title since 2020 and 14
th overall after finishing 5-1 on the weekend. Yale (3-3) took fourth place, Harvard finished in fifth (2-4), and Cornell (1-5) and Brown (0-6) rounded out the final two places, respectively.
Zoe Kim of Harvard took the top spot in women’s sabre with a 14-4 record, Kristina Petrova of Yale, who took home the women's foil title, and Rachael Kim of Columbia topped the women’s foil standings with 13-1 records, and Emily Vermeule from Harvard led women’s epee with a 15-3 mark.
On the women’s side, Penn earned a key win over Princeton, 14-13 to improve to 4-1 and keep three teams in contention for the title heading into the final round. Penn sabreist Sabrina Cho clinched te match for the Quakers to give Penn a late chance. In round seven, Columbia defeated Harvard, 16-11, Princeton took down Yale, 18-9, and Penn edged Cornell, 16-11 as each program moved to 5-1 and tie for the women's title.

MEN’S RECAP
Columbia won its 42nd overall men’s fencing championship and second since 2022, Princeton rallied to win its first title since 2017 and 17
th overall, and Harvard won its final match to win its second-straight Ivy League title and 13
th overall, as all three teams went 3-1 on the weekend. Penn finished the weekend 1-3 for fourth place and Yale (0-4) completed the men's standings.
Winning men’s saber was Yale’s Jordan Silberzweig with a record of 9-3, James Chen of Harvard and Samarth Kumbla of Columbia were 10-2 in men’s foil with Kumbla winning the individual men's foil championship, and Jonas Hansen topped men’s epee standings with a 10-2 record.
The men's competition also came down to the wire. The Columbia men clinched at least a share of the championship following round four, taking down Yale by a score of 19-9 while Princeton and Harvard remained in contention to share the title heading into the final round. The fifth and final men's round featured Princeton vs. Columbia with Princeton needing to secure the win to earn at least a share of the title. WIth the match tied, 12-12 with three bouts to go, Princeton rattled off three consecutive wins in foil, sabre and epee to win the match 15-12 and secure a share of the championship. Meanwhile, Harvard defeated Yale, 16-11 to share the title as well.
