PHILADELPHIA – The Penn Quakers won the inaugural Ivy League Baseball Tournament.
Penn clinched its first NCAA Tournament berth since 1995 with a 16-3 win over Princeton at Tommy Lasorda Field at Meiklejohn Stadium Monday afternoon.
Four different Penn players scored three runs in the game: Wyatt Henseler, Ben Miller, Davis Baker and Jarrett Pokrovsky. Henseler and Baker were both 2-for-4 at the plate. Pokrovsky drove in a total of four runs -- doing so with one swing. The freshman from Pittsgrove, N.J., hit a grand slam in the third inning, which opened things up for the Quakers.
Penn responded with an eight-run fourth inning to push ahead 13-0. It extended its lead to 16-0 in the top of the fifth, which was ignited by a two-run shot by Baker.
Cole Zaffiro earned the win on the mound for Penn, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing just two runs, one earned, and six hits.
Pokrovsky headlined the all-tournament team, being named the tournament's most outstanding player. He was 7-for-15 at the plate with six RBIs, a double and a home run in Penn's three contests.
