Columbia Voted Preseason Baseball Favorite

PRINCETON, N.J. – Columbia was named the preseason favorite in the 2023 Ivy League Preseason Baseball Poll, which was voted on by sports information directors from around the league and a media member that covers each school.

The Lions, which earned a share of the Ivy title last season, garnered 124  points in the poll and finished with 12  first-place votes. Penn, which also earned a share of the Ivy title last season, was selected to finish second in the poll with 113 points. The Quakers received three first place votes.

Dartmouth, which was selected to finish third in the poll with 91 points, was the only other team to receive a first place vote. Harvard placed fourth in the poll with 75 points.

The real battle for the fourth will take greater significance once the season gets underway with the inaugural Ivy Baseball Tournament set to take place May 19-22. The top four teams in the Ivy standings will earn a spot in the tournament, which will be hosted by the No. 1 overall seed.

Yale (68 points), Brown (45), Princeton (31) and Cornell (25) rounded out the preseason poll.

Opening day for all eight teams is Friday, Feb. 24.
