PRINCETON, N.J. – Strong performances highlighted the first day of the 2022 Ivy League Fencing Round-Robins, which features 11 nationally-ranked teams. On the women's side, Harvard and Princeton remain undefeated, while Columbia took down Harvard to remain perfect in the final round of the night on the men's side.
Action on the women’s side picks back up tomorrow, Sunday February 13, 2022 at 10 a.m., with Harvard and Princeton scheduled to fence in Round six at 11:15 a.m. The final two rounds of men’s bouts will begin at 2:15 p.m.
WOMEN’S FENCING RECAP
No. 5 Harvard and No. 1 Princeton women’s fencing teams went undefeated through the first three rounds of action at the Women’s Fencing Round-Robins. The Crimson defeated Yale, 18-9, and Brown, 20-7 before upsetting No. 4 Cornell, 19-8 to hand the Big Red its first loss in 32 consecutive duals. Princeton took down Penn, 21-6, Brown, 22-5 and Yale, 18-9.
No. 3 Columbia, which went 3-1 overall, suffered one loss at the hands of No. 11 Penn. The Quakers upset the Lions, 16-11, to a dominating performance from the saber team. The Quakers finished the day 2-1.
Yale defeated Cornell in the third round thanks to a strong performance in foil. The Bulldogs sit in fifth with a 1-3 mark followed by Brown at 0-4.
MEN'S FENCING RECAP
No. 8 Penn started strong with a 14-13 win over No. 7 Princeton in the first round of action. The Quaker’s took epee by a score of 6-3.
In the second round, Harvard defeated Penn, 19-9, thanks to a strong performance from the saber team that went 8-1. The foil team from Harvard went 6-3.
