Newly-Minted No. 1/1 Cornell Turns Attention to ECAC Hockey Title

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Newly-minted No. 1/1 Cornell turns its attention to the ECAC Hockey title after clinching the Ivy League championship last weekend. No. 5/5 Princeton, No. 10/10 Harvard and Yale compete for ECAC Hockey postseason berths and home ice.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • BANNER SEASON — Fresh off clinching its 15th all-time Ivy League championship—its third over the past four seasons—Cornell earned its first No. 1 ranking since Dec. 13, 2010. The Big Red are riding a 15-game unbeaten streak (13-0-2) and boast a .900 winning percentage on the year. No. 1/1 Cornell (33 points) now turns its attention to the ECAC Hockey title race, where it owns a four-point advantage over No. 5/5 Princeton (29 points). The Big Red will visit Brown and Yale to close out their Ivy League slate this weekend.
  • MAKING MOVES — No. 5/5 Princeton will look for back-to-back wins over No. 6/6 Clarkson for the first time since the 2010-11 season when it visits the Golden Knights Saturday. The Tigers own a nine-game unbeaten streak (8-0-1) entering the weekend, while Clarkson has not lost in six games (4-0-2). Both teams are within mathematical striking distance of No. 1/1 Cornell for the ECAC Hockey title with four games left on the regular-season slate.
  • TOURNAMENT TIME — Three Ivies have clinched ECAC Hockey postseason berths, with Yale needing a win or a pair of ties to earn its place in this year’s eight-team affair. Three Ivies—No. 5/5 Princeton (29 points), No. 10/10 Harvard (25 points) and Yale (22 points)—still have an opportunity to join No. 1/1 Cornell in clinching home ice for the ECAC Hockey quarterfinals. Looking beyond the ECAC Hockey Tournament, the Ivy League has produced multiple postseason qualifiers 12 times in the 19-year history of the NCAA National Collegiate Women’s Ice Hockey Championship and seems poised to do so again in 2019-20 with 3-of-10 nationally ranked programs.
  • WEEKLY HONORS — The Ivy League has accounted for 22-of-42 ECAC Hockey weekly honors since its season opener on Friday, Oct. 25.
  • IVY LEAGUE ON ESPN — Eight of this week’s 10 women’s ice hockey games will air on ESPN+. For more information on the Ivy League’s relationship with ESPN and to sign up for an ESPN+ subscription, click here
