Harvard Wins First Ivy League Title Since 2005, to Host Columbia in ILPS

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Harvard (25-13, 14-7 Ivy) clinched the 2019 Ivy League baseball title with a 7-2 victory over Brown in its season finale Monday.

This is the 19th all-time Ivy League championship for the Crimson and the first since 2005. With the win, Harvard also earned the right to host the best-of-three Ivy League Playoff Series (ILPS).

The ILPS will return to Harvard’s O’Donnell Field for the fifth time in the 27-year history of the event, on Saturday, May 18, and Sunday, May 19.

Harvard will play host to the victor of last year’s Ivy League Championship Series—since renamed the ILPS—Columbia. The Lions (19-21, 13-8 Ivy) finished a game back of the Crimson during the Ivy League regular season, with Harvard’s 2-1 series victory on April 27-28 proving to be the difference.

Each of the regular-season meetings were decided by two-or-fewer runs, including a one-run 14th-inning victory for the Crimson in the rubber game on April 28.

Harvard owns an 11-8 ILPS record, with series victories in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2002 and 2005. Columbia boasts an 11-6 mark, with series wins in 2008, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2018.

The winner of the best-of-three ILPS will receive the League’s automatic berth to the NCAA Baseball Regionals.
