PRINCETON, N.J. -- The
2019 Ivy League Women’s Golf Championship tees off on Friday at The Ridge at Back Brook in Ringoes, N.J. The championship will feature one round each day Friday through Sunday with play beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday on the par-72, 6,042-yard course.
The reigning Ivy League champion Princeton enters the weekend as the favorite, boasting an Ivy League-best scoring average of 298.20 as a team.
The Tigers are led by reigning Ivy League Player of the Year, junior
Maya Walton, who owns a League-leading 72.40 scoring average through 15 rounds this season. Penn’s
Christina Park (3rd, 74.65) also claim top five scoring averages through 17 rounds. Three newcomers – Yale’s
Ami Gianchandani (2nd, 73.86), Penn’s
Mary Shin (4th, 74.71) and Columbia’s
Alexis Florio (5th, 76.07) – round out the League’s top-five scoring averages.
The Tigers will face stiff competition from Penn, which looks to rebound from last year’s seventh-place finish, owns a 303.00 scoring average. The Quakers boast three golfers rank in the top-15 in scoring average, including Park and Shin who are third and fourth, respectively.
Harvard’s
Michelle Xie, the 2018 Individual Champion, looks to become the first Harvard student-athlete to win consecutive Ivy League individual champions and the first to do so since Princeton’s Susannah Aboff accomplished the feat in 2008 and 2009.
Brown’s
Brittany Park and Harvard’s
Belinda Hu were tabbed Co-Rookies of the Year a season ago. Park currently ranks eighth among League leaders with a 76.41 scoring average through 17 rounds, while Hu’s 76.09 scoring average would rank seventh in the League if she had the minimum rounds required.
BROWN
2018 Ivy League Finish: 3rd place (+53, 307-307-303-917)
After a third-place finish at last year’s Ivy League Women’s Golf Championship, Co-Rookie of the Year sophomore Brittany Park will take aim at the individual championship in her second tournament.
COLUMBIA
2018 Ivy League Finish: 4th place (+61, 320-298-307-925)
With the graduation of Nancy Xu, the Lions look to freshman Alexis Florio for another top-10 finish in the individual standings. Florio posted a pair of top-10 performances this season at the Lady Blue Hen Invite and Wofford Low Country Intercollegiate.
DARTMOUTH
2018 Ivy League Finish: 5th place (+71, 317-306-312-935)
After she came in 10th for the individual title, two-time All-Ivy member senior Catharine Roddy will try to climb up the leaderboard in her final Ivy League Women’s Golf Championship.
HARVARD
2018 Ivy League Finish: 2nd place (314-303-294-911)
In addition to the Individual Championship by Xie, sophomore Belinda Hu was named Co-Rookie of the year after her fifth-place finish in the Ivy League Women’s Golf Championship. The Crimson will need strong showing from both players if they want take back the team title.
PENN
2018 Ivy League Finish: 7th place (+92, 324-325-307-956)
Junior Christina Park will try to build off her 26th place finish in the individual championship and help the Quakers move into the top half of the team standings. This season, Park finished second at the Harvard Invitational.
PRINCETON
2018 Ivy League Finish: 1st place (313-304-294-911)
The Tigers will try to win a third straight team title behind Walton and Chang who return as the team leaders and top-10 individual finishers last season.
YALE
2018 Ivy League Finish: 6th place (+90, 319-324-311-954)
With a win at the Dartmouth Tourney and three other top-20 finishes, freshman Amy Gianchandani could replace Jennifer Peng as the Bulldogs’ best individual performer this year.
