NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Columbia tallied a perfect 6-0 record to earn its second consecutive Ivy League Fencing Round-Robins and 12th women’s fencing championship in program history.
After going 4-0 on the first day of competition, Columbia carried that momentum into the final day of action. The Lions defeated Cornell, 22-5, in the fifth round before a bye in the sixth round. In the final round of action, Columbia handed Penn a 20-7 loss.
Columbia’s
Sylvie Binder earned the foil title with a 14-0 record. Harvard’s
Elizabeth Tartakovsky was the individual champion in saber after posting a 14-2 mark. Princeton’s
Kasia Nixon was this year’s epee champion with a 17-1 record.
A win for Princeton and a loss for Harvard to start the day, set up a battle of second-place Tigers and third-place Crimson in the final round. In the fifth round, Princeton defeated Brown, 21-6, while Harvard suffered a 15-12 setback to Penn.
The Quakers earned a hard-fought 15-12 decision over Harvard to begin the day before falling to Yale, 14-13, in the fifth round. Yale’s
Anna Zhou came up big in the final bout to secure the win for the Bulldogs.
NCAA Regional Fencing is set for March 10 at Vassar College.
