Columbia Takes Home First Outright Ivy League Fencing Title Since 2008

Conn. – Columbia finished undefeated at the 2019 Ivy League Men’s Fencing Round-Robins to claim its first outright championship since 2008 and its 40th title in program history, marking the fifth consecutive year the Lions have won at least a share of the title.
 
After going 4-0 on day one, the Lions began the final day of competition with a double-bye before facing Penn in the seventh round. The Lions recorded a 19-8 win in the final round.
   
Harvard’s Eli Dershwitz went undefeated en route to his third straight Ivy League saber title, while teammate Geoffrey Tourette turned in a 12-2 mark to take home the foil title. Yale’s Isaac Shelanski went 9-3 in epee to earn the crown.
   
Harvard opened day two with a 20-7 win over Penn, while Princeton defeated Brown in the fifth round, 21-6. The Tigers finished the day with a hard-fought 14-13 win over Harvard to finish the weekend in second place with a 5-1 record.
 
Yale earned a thrilling 14-13 win over Penn in the sixth round. The Bulldogs were led by a saber trio that went 6-3 and an epee team that registered a 5-4 decision. In the final round, the Bulldogs tallied a 26-1 victory over Brown to conclude the weekend 3-2.

NCAA Regional Fencing is set for March 10 at Vassar College.
