Columbia Goes Undefeated to Claim Women's Fencing Championship

PRINCETON, N.J. – Columbia tallied a perfect 6-0 record to earn its 11th Women’s Fencing Championship and first since 2016.
 
Individually, Princeton’s Maia Chamberlain won the saber with a 15-3 mark. In the foil, Sylvie Binder turned in a 13-1 record to take home the individual crown.
Princeton’s Kasia Nixon registered an impressive 17-1 mark to take home the women’s epee title.  
 
Round four began with two undefeated teams – Columbia and Harvard – squaring off. The Lions registered a 19-8 defeat as the foil squad tallied a 9-0 record.
 
Columbia continued its torrid pace into the next two rounds, dismantling Yale, 21-6, and topping Penn, 20-7. The foil unit went 8-1 in both bouts to help the Lions finish the round-robins undefeated for the first time since 2015.
 
Princeton, the reigning Ivy League champions, tallied a 5-1 mark to finish second. The Tigers fell to Columbia yesterday before rattling off four straight wins today over Cornell (19-8), Penn (15-12), Brown (23-4) and Harvard (18-9).
 
With matching 4-1 records, Princeton and Harvard faced off in the final round. The Tigers defeated the Crimson, 18-9 in large part to the 7-2 tally in saber. The Crimson finished the weekend in third place with a 4-2 mark.
 
Penn took fourth with a 3-3 mark followed by Yale in fifth with a 2-4 mark. Cornell (1-5) and Brown (0-6) took fifth and sixth, respectively.
 
Up next, the Ivies will compete at the 2018 NCAA Regional Championship, March 12.
