Women's Ice Hockey All-Ivy, Postseason Awards Announced

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Cornell’s Hanna Bunton and Kristin O’Neill received the Ivy League women’s ice hockey postseason awards following a vote of the League’s six head coaches.

Cornell’s Doug Derraugh was named the Ivy League Coach of the Year, senior forward Hanna Bunton was selected as the Player of the Year and freshman forward Kristin O’Neill was tabbed as the Rookie of the Year.

Bunton accumulated 12 points in Ivy League play, tallying five goals and seven assists. On the season, the Belleville, Ontario, native amassed a team-high 26 points by way of 10 goals and a team-high 16 assists. Bunton ranks among the top 25 in ECAC Hockey in points (17th), goals (24th) and assists (17th). The senior was a +5 player for the Big Red, while notching a team-high five power play goals and four game-winning goals—both of which rank among the top five in ECAC Hockey.

O’Neill burst onto the college scene with seven points via three goals and four assists in Ivy League play. The Oakville, Ontario, native did even more damage in ECAC Hockey play, accumulating 24 points via a team-high 12 goals and 12 assists. O’Neill ranks among the top 30 in ECAC Hockey in points (23rd), goals (14th) and assists (28th). The freshman was a +7 player for Cornell, while adding a team-high and ECAC Hockey-best five short-handed goals.

In his 12th season at the helm of the Big Red program, Derraugh was a unanimous selection for Coach of the Year after leading Cornell to a 7-0-3 unbeaten record in League play and its first outright Ivy League title since the 2011-12 season. The Big Red also finished third in ECAC Hockey with a 13-4-5 record and 31 points and 17-7-5 overall.

Ivy League champion Cornell boasts a League-high five All-Ivy selections including unanimous selections Bunton and Micah Hart (So., D – Saanichton, British Columbia, Canada) on the First Team. Joining the pair are Second Team honorees O’Neill, Marlene Boissonnault (So., G - Dundee, New Brunswick, Canada) and Paula Voorheis (Sr., G – Shanty Bay, Ontario, Canada).

Princeton trails the Big Red with four All-Ivy honorees, but claims a League-best three First Team selections. Those include unanimous picks Karlie Lund (So., F – Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Steph Neatby (Fr., G – Toronto, Ontario, Canada), along with Kelsey Koelzer (Sr., D – Horsham, Pa.).

Yale is also represented on the First Team by senior forward Phoebe Staenz (Sr., F – Zurich, Switzerland), while Harvard showcases a pair of Second Team honorees in senior forward Sydney Daniels (Sr., F – Southwick, Mass.) and senior defenseman Briana Mastel (Sr., D – Wallingford, Conn.).

Brown and Dartmouth each claim a Second Team All-Ivy goaltender—Brown’s Monica Elvin (Sr., G – Oakland, Calif.) and Dartmouth’s Robyn Chemago (Sr., G – Slave Lake, Alberta, Canada).
