PRINCETON, N.J. -- Advantage, Lou Gehrig Division.
The first weekend of Ivy League baseball action featured cross divisional matchups, and when the dust settled three teams in the Lou Gehrig Division hold 3-1 records, tops in the League, while the fourth-place squad is 2-2, matching the record of the best teams in the Red Rolfe Division.
Cornell (15-7), Penn (16-8) and Princeton (5-17) are all tied with the best record in the League, at 3-1 each. Columbia (9-14) is 2-2 in Ivy play, matching the records of Dartmouth (14-3, 2-2 Ivy) and Yale (3-15, 2-2 Ivy), the teams tied for first in the Red Rolfe Division. Harvard (4-18, 1-3 Ivy) and Brown (2-15, 0-4 Ivy) round out the rest of the standings.
The Big Red swept Brown, 6-1 and 4-1, and then split with Yale, winning the first, 8-5, before dropping the second, 4-2. Penn won a pair of 3-2 games over Dartmouth, marking the first time this season the Big Green suffered back-to-back defeats.
The Quakers then split with Harvard, taking the first, 4-1, before falling in the second, 6-3. After trading victories with Yale, Princeton is on a two-game winning streak for the first time this season thanks to its sweep of Brown, taking both games by a score of 3-1. Dartmouth has also won its last two games thanks to a sweep of Columbia, 3-2 nad 7-4, which previously had won both against Harvard, 5-0 and 3-2.
In non-conference action, Brown split at No. 21 Gonzaga, winning the first game, 6-3, before falling in the nightcap, 6-5. Meanwhile, Cornell and Columbia split with a pair of New York teams in Albany and Manhattan, respectively. Dartmouth hung 15 on Siena to win by eight runs and Penn shut down Lafayette, 8-1.
More cross-divisional action will take place this week as the Lou Gehrig teams will travel to face the Red Rolfe squads. Brown and Yale will host Penn and Princeton, while Dartmouth and Harvard will take on Columbia and Cornell. The weekend’s action will feature a rematch of last year’s Championship Series, as Dartmouth will host Cornell on Sunday. The non-conference slate this week is highlighted by a quartet of BIG EAST teams, as Penn will face Villanova, Columbia will travel to Rutgers, Princeton will take on Seton Hall and Yale will host UConn.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dartmouth junior outfielder Jeff Keller (Atherton, Calif.) was virtually unstoppable at the plate last week, as he hit safely in all five games, including four multi-hit contests. Keller batted .562 (9-of-16) and hit for the cycle on the week, with five doubles, one triple and two home runs.
Eight of Keller’s nine hits last week were extra-base knocks and he struck out just once. He slugged 1.375 and walked twice for an on-base percentage of .632. Keller scored six runs and knocked in eight more.
Keller earns his second career Ivy League weekly award and his first Player of the Week honor, as he was named Rookie of the Week on April 26, 2011. He is the second Big Green to be named Player of the Week this season, joining Nick Lombardi (March 5).
Keller’s Weekly Stats

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Penn sophomore Connor Cuff (Western Springs, Ill.) kept the Ivy League’s top hitting and run scoring offense in check, holding Dartmouth to two runs on seven hits while going the distance in a seven inning game. Cuff walked one and struck out seven and recorded an ERA of 2.57.
For the first four innings, all the Big Green could manage was a solo home run in the second inning. Dartmouth was able to add a run in the fifth but Penn took the lead in the bottom half of the frame. In the sixth, Cuff stranded a runner in scoring position and then struck out two in the seventh to close out the victory.
Connor also takes home his second career Ivy League weekly award after earning Rookie of the Week honors on March 27, 2012. He is the second Quaker to earn Pitcher of the Week this season, joining Dan Gautieri, who shared the award with Columbia’s Joey Donino on March 12.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Penn sophomore outfielder Connor Betbeze (Kennesaw, Ga.) played in only two games last week, but he made an impact, batting .857 (6-of-7) with three runs and three RBI. He was a factor in all four of his team’s runs in the Quakers’ 4-1 win over Harvard, scoring two and knocking in two more, and then recorded a career-high five hits, in five at bats, with a run and an RBI in Penn’s 6-3 loss to the Crimson.
Betbeze is the second non-freshman Quaker to earn Rookie of the Week this season, joining junior Pat Bet, who took home the award on March 12. Penn has earned four Rookie of the Week honors so far in 2013, as freshman Michael Vilardo is a two-time recipient (March 5, March 26).
