PRINCETON, N.J. -- The only undefeated baseball team in Division I is none other than Dartmouth. The Big Green is 7-0 as of March 18, its best start to a season since 1903, when it opened the year 8-0. Dartmouth has appeared in the NCBWA National Rankings in the receiving votes category the past two weeks.
The team that defeated Dartmouth in the Ivy League Championship Series a year ago, Cornell (6-5), rebounded after losing three of four to George Washington by taking two of three at Appalachian State, an NCAA regional qualifier from a year ago.
However, the Big Red trails in the standings to Penn (8-6), which has won four of its past five games, including winning three of four against that same GW squad.
The upcoming week is highlighted by Princeton’s game at No. 1 UNC on Tuesday, which is a homecoming of sorts, as Tigers head coach Scott Bradley was a standout for the Tar Heels from 1978-82. Yale will play two at No. 15 Virginia, Columbia’s tough schedule continues with a two-game set at Miami (Fla.) and Brown will head out west to face Washington State.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cornell sophomore outfielder JD Whetsel (Liberty Twp., Ohio) was a huge factor in the Big Red’s successful series with Appalachian State. Whetsel batted .545 (6-of-11) with one double and home run for a slugging percentage of .909. He knocked in four runs and scored seven more himself, walked three times and recorded an on-base percentage of .643. He was also a danger on the base paths, swiping three bags.
Whetsel takes home his first career Ivy League weekly award and becomes the first Big Red to receive Player of the Week this season.

3 GP, .545 AVG. (6-of-11), .643 OBP, .909 Slugging %, 3 BB, 7 Runs, 1 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 3 SB
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Dartmouth senior lefty Kyle Hunter (Palm City, Fla.) maintained is 0.00 ERA after throwing six innings of shutout baseball at UAB in a 4-0 Big Green win and his first victory of the season. Hunter scattered seven hits, a walk and two hit batters across six innings, but never let any of those 10 base runners to cross home plate, thanks to a double play and four strikeouts.
Hunter receives his second career Pitcher of the Week award and becomes the second Big Green to earn the honor this season, joining Cole Sulser (March 5).

He then got the start in each of the next two games and did not disappoint, hitting 3-of-9 with a double and two runs.
