GAINESVILLE, Ga. — The Ivy League once again showcased its national depth at the NCAA Women’s Rowing Championships, with four programs competing and three among the top 10 at Lake Lanier Olympic Park from May 29-31.
Yale led the league contingent with a fifth-place finish, totaling 103 points. Princeton followed closely in sixth with 100 points, while Brown finished 10th with 77 points. Columbia rounded out the Ivy League’s championship field in 15th place with 49 points in its first-ever NCAA Championship appearance.
The Ivy League’s three top-10 teams were the second most of any conference at this year’s championship. The performance also extended one of the league’s most consistent stretches on the national stage, marking the fifth consecutive year that the Ivy League has had at least four NCAA Championship participants and at least three top-10 finishers.
Yale’s fifth-place finish was powered by strong results across all three NCAA boats. The Bulldogs placed second in the varsity four second final, crossing in 6:49.522, and also competed in both the second varsity eight grand final and varsity eight grand final. Yale finished sixth in the second varsity eight grand final with a time of 6:05.691 and fifth in the varsity eight grand final in 5:53.412.
Princeton finished sixth overall behind a balanced championship showing. The Tigers placed fourth in the varsity four second final, crossing in 6:58.380, then added a fifth-place finish in the second varsity eight grand final with a time of 6:03.119. Princeton closed the weekend with a sixth-place result in the varsity eight grand final, finishing in 6:00.056.
Brown earned a 10th-place team finish with 77 points and posted one of the league’s strongest boat-level results of the weekend. The Bears took third in the varsity four second final in 6:54.134, followed by a fifth-place finish in the second varsity eight second final in 6:08.770. Brown’s varsity eight also raced in the second final, placing fourth in 6:00.061.
Columbia made program history in its NCAA Championship debut, finishing 15th overall with 49 points. The Lions opened the Division I finals with a win in the varsity four fourth final, clocking 7:10.447. Columbia also placed second in the second varsity eight fourth final in 6:13.509 and second in the varsity eight third final in 6:00.496.
