WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – For the 10th time in the 28-year history of the event, an Ivy League school claimed the varsity eight national championship as Yale captured the crown Sunday at Mercer Lake.
The Bulldogs’ varsity eight of Alexa von der Schulenburg, Christina Bourmpou, Maya Meschuleit, Imogen Cabot, Harriet Drake-Lee, Mia Levy, Nicole Martinez, Violet Barletta and Sofia Garcia etched their names into history with a time of 6:06.138 to take gold. The win moved Yale into second place in the team standings with 121 points, matching the program’s highest-ever finish. Yale was one of four programs to reach the grand final in all three races.
Princeton’s second varsity eight of Cameron Price, Nicole Dunn, Alice Patton, Anna Cowell, Helena Purves, Ella Barry, Cate Sauer, Laoise O’Donohue and Frances McKenzie also medaled, earning bronze with a time of 6:15.021.
The Ivy League had an NCAA-record-tying six programs competing at the championships. For the seventh consecutive championship, at least three Ivies finished in the top 10.
