PRINCETON, N.J. – Thanana Kotchasanmanee became the fourth Ivy League golfer to qualify for the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship, highlighting a strong close to NCAA Regional competition for Ivy women’s golf. Kotchasanmanee earned the lone individual qualifying spot out of the Chapel Hill Regional after claiming co-medalist honors at Finley Golf Club.
The Princeton standout entered the final round six shots off the lead before firing a bogey-free 66 to finish at 204 (-6), tied atop the leaderboard with Oklahoma State’s Marta Silchenko. With Oklahoma State advancing as a team, Kotchasanmanee secured the individual berth awarded to the highest-finishing player not on an advancing team.
Kotchasanmanee joins fellow Princeton golfers Mary Moan (1997), Kelly Shon (2013) and Maya Walton (2017) as the only Ivies to reach the NCAA Championship final site since the event began in 1982. The championship is set for May 22-27 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
Columbia concluded its historic season at the Ann Arbor Regional, finishing with a three-round score of 903 (+51). First years Emily Zeng and Kristina Xu led the Lions, with Zeng tying for 24th at 220 (+7) and Xu finishing in the top 30 at 222 (+9). Bridget Chantharath also impressed in her NCAA Regional debut, carding a final-round 72.
The Lions’ regional appearance capped a record-setting campaign that included the program’s first Ivy League Championship and first NCAA Regional berth since 2007. Columbia set new team records for single-round and 54-hole scoring, while Xu established a program record with a 73.50 stroke average during her rookie season.
Harvard sophomore Vanessa Zhang also represented the league at NCAA Regionals, finishing tied for 38th at the Tallahassee Regional with a three-round score of 225 (+9). Zhang closed with her best round of the week, a 74, at Seminole Legacy Golf Club.
