PRINCETON, N.J. -- Yale earned its second consecutive Ivy League regular season title with a 60-54 win in New York City over Columbia. Meanwhile, Cornell and Penn both locked up spots in Ivy Madness — setting the field and seeds for the bracket March 14 and 15 in Ithaca.
Regardless of next weekend's season-finale results, Yale will be the No. 1 seed in Ivy Madness and will face No. 4 Cornell in the 11 a.m. semifinal on March 14. The second semifinal will be No. 2 Harvard vs. No. 3 Penn in the 2 p.m. game. The winners will face off Sunday, March 15 at 12 p.m. ET.
YALE 60, COLUMBIA 54
Yale bounced back from last night's dramatic, last-second defeat at the hands of Cornell to top Columbia 60-54 in New York City and clinch at least a share of the Ivy League regular season title. Nick Townsend led the Bulldogs with 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Yale will host Princeton in its regular season finale. Columbia was paced by Kenny Noland's 20 points.
"Winning the championship is really special, and we're fortunate to have won so many," Yale head coach James Jones said. We take them for granted at times, and I'm glad the guys got to go to the court and celebrate their hard work and effort. You know, this game was a grinder. We started out great. The guys had a great charge. We did a poor job of that last night, so our guys really stepped up and got us off in the right direction and helped us win the game."
PENN 64, HARVARD 61
Penn erased a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat Harvard 64-61 and clinch its spot in Ivy Madness. Ethan Roberts led Penn with 21 points while TJ Power had nine rebounds. Robert Hinton had 20 points for Harvard, who locked up the No. 2 seed this evening. The Crimson will finish the regular season at home vs. Columbia while Penn will travel to Brown.
CORNELL 86, BROWN 80
Cooper Noard's 30 points helped Cornell earn its berth in Ivy Madness tonight, capping off a 2-0 home, back-to-back weekend for the Big Red. Brown was led by Landon Lewis' 20 points and nine rebounds. Cornell will end its regular season next weekend with a road game at Dartmouth while Brown will host Penn.
PRINCETON 82, DARTMOUTH 61
Princeton raced out to a 43-28 halftime lead and never looked back on its way to a 82-61 win over Dartmouth. Jackson HIcke's 22 points led the way for the Tigers while Kareem Thomas matched Hicke's 22 points with 22 of his own. Dartmouth ends the regular season next weekend by hosting Cornell while Princeton will travel to Yale.
