Cornell, Princeton, Harvard, Brown Open Ivy Play with Wins

PRINCETON, N.J. – Following a non-conference season that had three teams in the top-80 of the NET, the attention shifts to Ivy League play as Cornell, Princeton, Harvard and Brown all picked up league wins in the opening weekend.
 
CORNELL 67, COLUMBIA 60
Cornell women’s basketball opened Ivy League play with an impressive 67-60 road win at Columbia. Emily Pape scored 19 points with four three-pointers, while Rachel Kaus added 15 and Clarke Jackson and Audrey Chen chipped in 12 apiece as the Big Red shot 45.1 percent from the field and 52.6 percent from three. Cornell used a strong second half and balanced contributions to pull away late, improving to 5-8 overall and 1-0 in Ivy League action. Columbia slipped to 9-5 with the loss.
 
NO. 24 PRINCETON 74, PENN 68
Princeton earned a 74-68 road win at Penn on Saturday, holding off a late Quakers surge at the Palestra to open Ivy League play with a victory. Madison St. Rose scored 15 points, including the 1,000th of her career, while Olivia Hutcherson posted a career-high 20 points. After Penn briefly took the lead early in the fourth quarter, the Tigers responded with a key scoring run and closed the game at the free-throw line to secure the win. Princeton moved to 13-1 overall, while Penn dropped to 10-4.
 
HARVARD 72, DARTMOUTH 47
Harvard opened Ivy League play with a commanding 72-47 road win over Dartmouth on Saturday. A balanced Crimson effort saw 11 players score, led by Abigail Wright’s 14 points and Olivia Jones’ career-best 11, as Harvard pulled away with a dominant 24-10 third quarter. The Crimson paired an efficient offensive showing with strong defensive play to improve to 8-6 overall and 1-0 in Ivy League action.
 
BROWN 88, YALE 72
Brown opened Ivy League play with an 88-72 road win over Yale on Monday night in New Haven, pulling away in the second half after the teams were tied at 41 at halftime. The Bears shot finished the game shooting 54.2-percent from the field and outscored the Bulldogs 27-17 in the fourth quarter to build separation, highlighted by a strong third quarter and a decisive late run. Brown improved to 9-4 overall, while Yale dropped to 4-10 in its Ivy League opener.
