PRINCETON, N.J. - For the first time since 1997, Brown will be heading to the NCAA Tournament after claiming the 2025 Ivy Softball Tournament crown. The Bears defeated top-seeded Princeton to complete an undefeated run at Cynthia Lynn Paul '94 Field.
GAME 5: No. 1 Princeton 10, No. 3 Columbia 1 (5 inn.)
Princeton kicked off Saturday’s action in style, needing just five innings to take down Columbia via mercy rule and advance to the championship finale.
Columbia loaded the bases in the top of the first inning but could not get a run to score, however, Princeton was able to plate two runs in the bottom half on a two-run blast by
Karis Ford.
The Lions answered with a solo home run of their own in the top half of the second inning, but Princeton starter
Cassidy Shaw held Columbia hitless for the remainder of the game to seal the win. Shaw gave up just one run on two hits across five innings in the circle.
The Tigers scored at least one run in the third, fourth, and fifth innings of play, including an RBI double from
Julia Dumais in the third and an RBI double from
Braden Hale in the fourth frame.
Dumais, Ford, and Hale each finished with multiple hits at the plate, while teammate
Graciela Dominguez was the fourth Tiger to turn in a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
GAME 6: No. 4 Brown 4, No. 1 Princeton 1
Brown starter
Alexis Guevara continued to show her postseason prowess, leading the Bears to the title with her third complete game in as many Ivy Softball Tournament games. The senior needed just 99 pitches to keep Princeton in check, giving up one run on five hits with three strikeouts.
At the plate, Brown got on the board first with an RBI single off the bat of Ivy Player of the Year
Laurel Moody in the opening inning of play before the Tigers even the score at 1-all with an RBI double from Hale in the third inning.
The Bears answered quickly in the bottom of the fourth when
Elli Thompson drove in what would be the eventual game-winning run with an RBI single of her own. Brown added two insurance runs in the fifth inning as Guevara and
Abby Bettencourt each drove in a run.
With the title, Brown advances to the 2025 NCAA Division I Softball Championship which begins on May 16. The NCAA Selection show is scheduled to take place on May 11 where the Bears will learn their opponent and destination for the opening round of play.
