PRINCETON, N.J. - Fourth-seeded Brown continued its postseason run on Saturday evening, defeating No. 3 seed Columbia 2-1, while No. 1 seed Princeton remained alive in the Ivy Softball Tournament with a 5-1 victory over second-seeded Harvard at Cynthia Lynn Paul Field on Princeton’s campus.

GAME 3: No. 4 Brown 2, No. 3 Columbia 1

First Team All-Ivy pitcher Alexia Guevara tossed her second consecutive complete game in the circle for Brown, allowing just one run on six hits with six strikeouts.

It was a true pitcher’s duel as Columbia’s Jordan Hill was also masterful from the rubber, allowing just two runs on seven hits in a complete game of her own.

Brown struck first with a two-out RBI single off the bat of Jasmine Hsiao to score Leah Carey from second. In the sixth inning, an Abby Bettencourt RBI single gave the Bears a 2-0 cushion on the scoreboard.

Columbia was able to plate a run in the bottom half of the inning on a solo home run from Payton Shimansky, but Guevara sat the Lions down in order in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.

Bettancourt was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI, while teammate Alyssa Villarde finished 2-for-3 with two doubles of her own.

GAME 4: No. 1 Princeton 5, No. 2 Harvard 1

Harvard put the game’s first run on the board in the third inning of play thanks to an RBI single from Sophie Sun, however, the Tigers of Princeton scored five runs in the sixth to avoid elimination on the second day of tournament play.

In the home half of the sixth, All-Ivy First Team honorees Julia Dumais and Braden Hale each reached base before scoring on an RBI double from fellow All-Ivy First Team member Karis Ford. Two batters later, another First Team All-Ivy teammate Sonia Zhang sent a ball over the left field fence for a three-run home run to give Princeton a four-run lead.

Ivy League Pitcher of the Year Brielle Wright tallied the win for Princeton after throwing 3.2 innings of relief, giving up just three hits with six strikeouts. Starter Cassidy Shaw went 3.1 innings in the circle, surrendering one run on four hits.

At the plate, Zhang was the lone Tiger to turn in a multi-hit performance with a 2-for-3 night, while Harvard’s Sun and Finley Payne each had two hits in the loss.
