Princeton Earns Seventh Straight Women's Rowing Title

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. — Princeton claimed its seventh consecutive Ivy League women’s rowing championship on Sunday morning after the varsity eight boat raced to a three second victory over second-place Penn in the grand final to earn the program's 18th overall title.

The Tigers also won the team points title (82 points) as well as the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships after tallying 44 points from the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, and Varsity Four boats.

In the team points race, No. 7 Brown was second with 75 points while No. 6 Yale was third with 71 points. No. 11 Penn was fourth with 66 points while No. 18 Columbia and No. 20 Harvard tied for fifth with 38 points.

Brown claimed the title in the Varsity Four C grand final after crossing the line in 8:06.197. Penn led through the first 1,500m, but took second with a time of 8:10.161. Princeton’s squad was just two seconds behind the Quakers, finishing in 8:12.852.

The Tigers built a four-second lead after the first 500m of the Varsity Four B final and increased the advantage to over 10 seconds to take home the gold medal. Princeton wrapped up the event with a mark of 7:31.660 while Yale took second after crossing the line in 7:42.471. The Bears took home the bronze medal in the event with a time of 7:46.905.

The Third Varsity Eight Final was close throughout as Penn led after the first 500m, but Brown snagged the gold with a time of 7:00.970. The Quakers earned the silver medal with a time of 7:03.360. The Bulldogs placed third in 7:04.988.

In the Varsity Four grand final, Princeton gained the advantage prior to the 1,000m mark en route to a first-place effort of 7:18.723. Yale garnered second place with a time of 7:22.593 while Brown was third after crossing in 7:25.161.

The Second Varsity Eight grand final saw the Bears hold the lead throughout, posting a three-second victory over Yale. The Bears had a winning time of 6:40.802 while the Bulldogs took the silver medal with a time of 6:43.831. Princeton was third after crossing the line in 6:47.347.

In the final race of the day, Princeton claimed the Varsity Eight title as well as the Sally P. Shoemaker Trophy. The Tigers jumped out in front early and held off Penn. The Tigers won the event in 6:30.520 while the Quakers were second with a mark of 6:33.035. Yale’s boat finished with a time of 6:34.452 for third place.
