Princeton Captures 2024 Ivy League Softball Tournament Title

PRINCETON, N.J. -  Playing on its home field as the top seed, Princeton claimed the 2024 Ivy League Tournament Title on Saturday afternoon, winning the winner-take-all game over Harvard 1-0 after dropping the first game of the day by a 6-1 score.

Game One: Harvard 6, Princeton 1
Third-seeded Harvard opened the day’s action with a run in the first inning of play. After Princeton evened the score at 1-all in the third, the Crimson went on to plate five runs combined over the next two innings to stave off elimination in the double-elimination tournament

Ivy League Player of the Year Sophie Sun was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, two RBI, and a run scored in the contest, while Allison O’Heany finished 2-for-3 with two RBI of her own for Harvard. Nicolette Hunter picked up her 10th win of the year with a complete game four-hitter in the circle.

Game Two: Princeton 1, Harvard 0
The Tigers earned their championship trophy with a dominant pitching performance from the tandem of Cassidy Shaw and Brielle Wright. The two underclassmen kept the League’s top scoring offense without a run and gave up just four hits in the victory.

Shaw earned the win, throwing six scoreless innings with three strikeouts and Wright collected her ninth save of the season with a scoreless seventh inning appearance.

Karis Ford was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate for Princeton, while Cate Bade drove in the game’s only run in the second inning of action. Ford was honored as the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player after going 5-for-10 with two doubles, one home run, and four RBI across four games.

The NCAA Tournament Selection Show will take place Sunday, 5/12 at 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN2 where the Tigers will learn their opponent for the NCAA Regional slated to begin late next week.
