PRINCETON, N.J. — Following an impressive regular season that saw four Ivy League members punch tickets to the NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament, the Ivy League announced the All-Ivy teams and major award winners on Wednesday afternoon.
Taking home 2023-24 Ivy League Player of the Year honors was Cornell’s
Radu Papoe, the Big Red’s second Ivy League Player of the Year and first since 2000. Throughout the spring season, Papoe went 15-3 overall in singles play and 6-1 in Ivy League matches, posting eight wins over nationally-ranked players and three wins over top-20 players, including a win over then-No. 12 Ozan Baris which helped Cornell defeat then-No. 16 Michigan State, 4-3. He also went 5-2 in doubles during Ivy League play, and 14-6 overall, pairing up with both Eric Verdes and Samuel Paquette during the season.
The 2023-24 Ivy League Rookie of the Year went to Princeton’s
Paul Inchauspe. Inchauspe went 5-1 in singles during Ivy League competition and was 20-6 in dual matches overall in the spring, playing all but one match at the number one spot for the Tigers. He also went 9-4 against nationally-ranked opponents in singles. In doubles, the first year went 15-8 overall and 3-3 in doubles, accomplishing that record with
Filippos Astreinidis as his primary partner (10-5, 3-3 Ivy League together) while also playing with
Landon Ardila (5-2, 0-0 Ivy) and
Sebastian Sec (1-1, 1-1 Ivy).
Winning his second-consecutive Ivy League Coach of the Year award is Columbia’s
Howard Endelman. It’s his second award and Columbia’s fourth since it began being awarded in 2015. Endelman guided his Lions to a 6-1 Ivy League record, sharing the Ivy League Championship with Harvard, and a 20-3 overall record, which saw Columbia earn the No. 8 seed heading into the NCAA Championship.
In addition to Papoe and Inchauspe, Columbia’s
Michael Zheng and Harvard’s
Cooper Williams were unanimously selected to the All-Ivy Singles First Team. The team also included
Henry von der Schulenburg from Harvard,
Top Nidunjianzan from Princeton, and
Theo Dean from Yale, all of whom were on the All-Ivy First Team for a second-straight year.
In doubles, two pairings were unanimous selections by the coaches, Zheng and
Theo Winegar of Columbia and Dean and
Aidan Reilly of Yale. They were joined by the duo of Williams and
Daniel Milavsky from Harvard on the All-Ivy Doubles First Team.
Additionally, one student-athlete from each institution was recognized for their commitment in the classroom and on the court as members of the 2023-24 Ivy League Men's Tennis Academic All-Ivy team. Brown’s
Chun Lam, Columbia's
Henry Ruger, Cornell’s
Samuel Paquette, Dartmouth's
Logan Chang, Harvard’s
Alan Yim, Penn's
Tal Goodman, Princeton’s
Alan Kam and Yale's
Theo Dean were each named to the team.
