PRINCETON, N.J. — In a historic season of Ivy League men's tennis that saw five programs punch tickets to the NCAA Tournament, both Columbia and Cornell advanced to the second round of the championships.
COLUMBIA 4, ST. JOHN'S 0
Columbia was the first Ivy to advance to the second round, sweeping St. John's 4-0, at the Virginia Tennis Center at the Boar's Head Resort. With the win, the Lions have now won at least one NCAA Tournament game for the seventh-straight season.
Columbia earned the doubles point in quick fashion as the duo of

Nicolas Kotzen won 6-1. Then, on court No. 2,
Sachin Palta and
Andrew Ena clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Mats Pottbecker and Sergej Zivkovic. The Lions then earned wins on courts one, two, and four to claim the 4-0 win.
With the win, Columbia will take on No. 4 Virginia tomorrow in the second round.
CORNELL 4, ARKANSAS 3
In what was a rematch from the Big Red's opening round matchup a few seasons ago, Cornell got the better of Arkansas once again, earning a 4-3 win over the Razorbacks to advance to the second round and set up a second round matchup against No. 6 TCU.
The Big Red had to come from behind in this one as Arkansas claimed the doubles point with wins at Nos. 2 and 3.
The Big Red responded in singles with a strong showing through the middle of the lineup. The first to claim a point for the Big Red was a freshman as Rethin Pranav put Cornell on the board with a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 4. The, Felipe Pinzon earned a three-set victory at No. 5, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, to give Cornell a 2-1 lead.
Arkansas would answer back, however, winning points at Nos. 2 and 6, to reclaim the lead, 3-2.
The top of the Big Red lineup showed up when they needed to as Rodrigo Fernandes claimed yet another big win, this time knocking off No. 17 Jakub Vrba in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Moments later, Petar Teodorovic clinched the match at No. 3, rallying for a 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 victory to send the Big Red into a second round matchup against TCU on Saturday.
