Cornell Wrestling Claims Third-Straight EIWA Title

BUCKNELL, PA. — The Cornell Big Red claimed its third consecutive and 28th  overall EIWA title on Saturday evening, recording 164.5 team points to beat out second place Lehigh (159.5).

Three wrestlers claimed titles on Saturday for the Big Red, as Ethan Fernandez was the first to do so at 149 pounds, winning by technical fall over Harvard’s Jack Crook.
 
Next up, Ivy League Rookie of the Year Meyer Shapiro claimed the EIWA Champion title at 157 pounds with a 6-3 win over Lehigh’s Max Brignola.
 
Julian Ramirez claimed his second-straight EIWA title at 165 pounds following a 5-3 win over Navy’s Andrew Cerniglia.
 
Cornell racked up second-place finishes as well to help win the title as Brett Ungar (125), Vito Arujau (133), and Jacob Cardenas (197) were runner-ups.
 
Columbia (T4), Penn (T4),  Princeton (T8), and Harvard (10) all finished in the top 10 of the team standings. Columbia’s Lennox Wolak and Aaron Ayzerov were the only other Ivies to be named EIWA champions, doing so at 174 pounds and 184 pounds, respectively.
 
The 2024 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships brackets will be announced on Wednesday, March 8 at 8 p.m. ET. The Championships will be held at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo. on March 21-23.
