NEW YORK — The Cornell Big Red made it two-for-two in Ivy League Wrestling Tournaments, winning their second-consecutive, and the second-ever, tournament title in the 2026 installment of the event, held inside Columbia’s Levien Gymnasium.
Cornell had six wrestlers reach the finals of their respective weight classes, with four of them winning individual titles, both of which were the most of any competing school in the tournament and aided the Big Red’s team win. Cornell totaled 132.5 points, behind gold medal-winning efforts from
Tyler Ferrera (133 pounds),
Vince Cornella (141),
Jaxon Joy (149), and
Simon Ruiz (174), to finish 14.5 points clear of Columbia.
Columbia finished second with 118 points, vaulting Penn on the last match of the day as
Vincent Mueller (285) won the heavyweight finals to give Columbia their third finals victory of the event.
Cesar Alvan (165) defeated
Ty Whalen by sudden victory and
Joe Curtis (184) stood atop the podium after earning a decision in his bout.
While Penn settled for third in the tournament, the Quakers sent five wrestlers to the finals and pulled off, arguably, the biggest upset of the night as
Jude Swisher defeated top-seeded
Meyer Shapiro of Cornell, who hadn’t lost since last year’s NCAA Championships, with an 8-3 decision. The win helped earn Swisher Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament honors.
Princeton, who finished fourth, saw
Marc-Anthony McGowan defend his 2025 title at 125 pounds, and Brown, who finished fifth as a team, saw
Andrew Reall pull-out a sudden victory win at 197.
On top of the individual titles handed out, which automatically sent those winners to the 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships, several other Ivy student-athletes punched their tickets as the Ivy League received 23 pre-tournament allocations.
