PRINCETON, N.J. – The 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Cross Country Championships are set for Saturday, Nov. 2 at Princeton University.
FROM PARIS TO PRINCETON – Reigning national champion Graham Blanks will be competing in his second event of the fall after a busy summer. The Athens, Ga., native was
one of more than 100 Ivies to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games where he finished ninth in the 5000m with a time of 13:18.67. Blanks is seeking to become ninth individual to win more than one Heps title and first since Penn’s Thomas Awad (2014 & 2015 champion).
GOING FOR FOUR – Both the Harvard women and Princeton men are seeking a four-peat of the team title. On the women’s side, the feat has occured five times with the most recent being Princeton, which won five straight from 2006-10. On the men’s side it has happened seven times with the most recent occurrence being Princeton, which won four consecutive Ivy titles from 1996-99.
ALL-IVY RETURNERS – There are a total of 15 all-Ivy honorees (six women, nine men) from last year set to compete on Saturday. The list is highlighted by Columbia’s Phoebe Anderson and Blanks, both of whom enter the meet with hopes of becoming four-time First Team All-Ivy honorees (awarded to the top seven finishers). Anderson finished second last year only behind another Paris Olympian -- Harvard’s Maia Ramsden. She earned All-America honors last season after finishing 29th at the NCAA championship.
IN THE RANKINGS – The men’s race consists of two nationally ranked programs: No. 15 Harvard and No. 22 Princeton. The Crimson are ranked No. 2 Northeast regional poll while Cornell and Yale earned the fourth and fifth rankings, respectively. The Tigers hold the No. 3 spot in the Mid-Atlantic Region. On the women’s side, Harvard is receiving votes in the national poll and ranks fourth in the Northeast Region. Princeton holds the No. 5 ranking in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
