PHILADELPHIA — The Cornell wrestling program claimed its second consecutive and 27
th overall EIWA title on Sunday evening. The Big Red notched 165.5 team points ahead of third place Penn (106), and Columbia (95) who tied for fourth place.
Ivy League Wrestler of the Year
Yianni Diakomihalis claimed his fourth title and second at 149 pounds, while Rookie of the Year
Vince Cornella claimed his first title at 141 pounds. Diakomihalis captured the Fletcher Award for most career points scored at the tournament as well as the Outstanding Wrestler Award.
A total of six wrestlers claimed titles on Sunday, including Diakomihalis and Cornella. In addition,
Vito Arujau (133),
Julian Ramirez (165),
Chris Foca (174), and
Jacob Cardenas (197) all captured titles.
Brett Ungar (125) took second at 125 while heavyweight
Brendan Furman grabbed seventh.
After the Big Red's outstanding weekend, Cornell's
Mike Grey earned the EIWA Coach of the Year Award.
The 2023 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships brackets will be announced on Wednesday, March 8. The 2023 Division I Wrestling Championships will be held at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma on March 16-18.
