PRINCETON, N.J. — For the fourth time this season, Columbia and Harvard women's basketball will face off — this time in the Postseason WNIT Great Eight — on Sunday, March 26 at 4 p.m. ET at Columbia's Levien Gymnasium. This is the second straight season that the Lions have advanced this far in the tournament.
The matchup comes after both teams won in the Super 16 as Harvard defeated Rhode Island, 74-63, on Thursday night while Columbia bested Syracuse, 88-82, on Friday night.
Earlier in the tournament, the Crimson defeated another Atlantic-10 team (UMass) in the Round of 32 after
Harmoni Turner recorded a triple-double to help Harvard past Towson in the first round. Harvard's
Lola Mullaney has been the catalyst for the Crimson offense through the first three games of the tournament, leading the team in scoring in two of the three games while scoring 63 total points.
As for the Lions, before defeating the Orange in the Super 16, Megan Griffith's squad won a New York City showdown against Fordham in the Round of 32 after defeating Fairleigh Dickinson in the opening game. Junior guard
Abbey Hsu has led the way for the Lions in the tournament, leading the team in scoring in all three games while scoring 20-plus points in each.
In the 2022-23 campaign, the Lions are 2-1 against the Crimson, having defeated Harvard in both regular season matchups. However, the Crimson got the better of the Lions in the Ivy Madness Tournament with a 72-65 overtime victory.
This is the first time in Ivy League women's basketball history that two programs will face off in the postseason.
