Blanks Becomes First Men's Ivy National Champ in Historic Day

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –
The 2023 NCAA Cross Country Champions were historic for the Ivy League.
 
Harvard junior Graham Blanks became the first-ever Ivy to win the men’s cross country individual national title. Blanks finished the 10K course in 28:37.7. At the front of the pack for entirety of the race, Blanks and New Mexico’s Samuel Habtom separated from the other frontrunners around the final kilometer. Blanks pulled away to win by a three second margin and complete his perfect season with five first place finishes.
 
The league had a strong individual showings in both the men’s and women’s races with four total All-America performances: Maia Ramsden (Harvard), Phoebe Anderson (Columbia), Blanks and Nicholas Bendtsen (Princeton).
 
Additionally, the Princeton men’s 11th and Harvard men’s 15th place finishes marked the third-ever time on the men’s side that two teams placed in the top 15. Princeton’s 11th place finish was its highest since 2012. For the Crimson, it represents the fourth consecutive championship with a top 20 finish.
 
In the women’s race, Ramsden earned a 10th place finish in the 6K course with a time of 19:30.8, which marked an improvement from her 11th place finish last year. With the result she became the fifth ever Ivy to post multiple top-15 individual finishes at the NCAA championship. Harvard placed 25th on the women’s side.
 
Anderson and Bendtsen each earned 29th place finishes. For Anderson, who finished in 20:01.9, it marked a huge improvement from last year’s championship, where she placed 191st. Bendsten led the charge for the Tigers, finishing in 29:38.6.
 
Penn junior Olivia Morganti and Yale junior Sean Kay each made their NCAA championship debuts. Morganti finished in 20:58.3 (144th) and Kay ran a 31:21.0 (171st).
