Princeton Named Women's Basketball Favorite in Preseason Poll

PRINCETON, N.J. 
– After a thrilling 2022-23 season that came down to final weekend of the season, Princeton has been selected as the league favorite in the 2023-24 Ivy League Women’s Basketball Preseason Poll following a vote by members of the media, the league announced on Thursday.

Columbia, last season's Ivy League champion along with Princeton, was picked second, narrowly edging out Harvard in third. Penn was selected fourth as Yale, Brown, Cornell, and Dartmouth rounded out the standings.

The Tigers swept the first-place votes for a total of 128 points, the sixth team to accomplish the feat in League history and first since Penn in 2016-17. Princeton enters the year coming off a 24-6 overall record and a 12-2 record in Ivy play. For the second consecutive season, Princeton advanced to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament, this time with a win over NC State. The Tigers return the Ivy League Player of the Year (Kaitlyn Chen), Rookie of the Year (Madison St. Rose), and Co-Defensive Player of the Year (Ellie Mitchell).

The Lions received 103 points coming into the season off the back of a stellar 2022-23 campaign that saw them advance to the championship game of the Postseason WNIT. Columbia finished with a 28-6 overall record and a 12-2 record in Ivy play. Columbia returns All-Ivy First Team selection and WBCA All-America Honorable Mention Abbey Hsu as well as All-Ivy Honorable Mention Kitty Henderson. Last year's Ivy League Coach of the Year, Megan Griffith, leads the way for the Lions.

The Crimson garnered 102 points and the third spot after a trip to the Ivy League Tournament final and a spot in the WNIT Great Eight. Harvard finished last season with a 20-12 record. The Crimson recorded wins against UMass and Rhode Island in the WNIT before falling to Columbia. All-Ivy First Team selection Harmoni Turner returns for the Crimson as well as Second Team honoree Lola Mullaney.

The 2023 Ivy League Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments will be held on the campus of Columbia at Levien Gymnasium March 15-17. The men’s and women’s tournament champions will each earn automatic berths to the NCAA tournament.

The Ivy League women's basketball season begins on Monday, November 6 as five Ivies begin their 2023-24 campaigns.
