Diakomihalis Wins National Championship, Six Ivies Crowned All-Americans at NCAA Wrestling Championships

DETROIT, Mich. -- Cornell junior Yianni Diakomihalis claimed his third-straight national championship to lead six Ivy League wrestlers receiving All-America honors at the NCAA Championships.

The Big Red totaled 54.5 points to place seventh overall, allowing Cornell to finish in the top 10 of every tournament it has competed in since 2008. Princeton’s 38 points to secure a 16th place finish were its most at the NCAA Championship in program history. It was the sixth time in program history that the team finished in the top 20 at the NCAA tournament. Penn, Harvard and Columbia rounded out the rest of the Ivy team standings at NCAAs.

Diakomihalis joins Kyle Dake as the only Big Red wrestlers to claim at least three national championships. He went 28-0 in his junior campaign, extending his career mark to 94-1 with a 75-match win streak. His streak is just two short of Dake’s 77-straight wins to close out his collegiate career. Vito Arujau finished in third place at 125 pounds to claim his second All-American honors of his career. The third member of the Big Red to claim All-America accolades was Jonathan Loew with an eighth-place finish in the 184-pound weight class.

Princeton continued to make program history as the Tigers placed not one, but two wrestlers in NCAA Championship matches. Patrick Glory made history first as he was the first NCAA Championship finalist in 20 years, to have Quincy Monday join him in the finals shortly after. Both Glory and Monday finished second in their respective weight classes to earn All-America honors.

CJ Composto is the first freshman in Penn wrestling history to earn All-America accolades after finishing in eighth place at 141 pounds.
