IVIES IN THE RANKINGS.
In InterMat’s most recent rankings, a season-high of 22 wrestlers are ranked in the top 25 across all 10 weight classes. Since preseason rankings were released, at least one wrestler has been ranked in each weight class each week. Currently, Cornell’s
Yianni Diakomihalis is the highest ranked wrestler in the Ivy League as he is ranked No. 1 in the 149lb weight class. Princeton’s
Patrick Glory holds steady at No. 2 at 125lbs.
NATIONALLY RANKED PROGRAMS.
The Ivy League has seen half of its programs received top 25 national rankings. In the most recent release of the National Wrestling Coaches Association Poll, two Ivies sat in the top 20. Cornell sits in the No. 12 slot with Princeton holding strong at the No. 19 slot and Penn receiving votes.
In InterMat’s dual meet rankings, Cornell finds themselves as high as No. 10 while Penn holds the No. 23 slot.
LAST TIME ON THE MAT.
Last time the Ivies stepped on the mat, Columbia wrestlers upset three nationally ranked opponents. Columbia’s
Matt Kazimir topped No. 17 Lehigh’s Connor McGonagle, before defeating then-No. 18 Carter Young of No. 4 Oklahoma State to earn Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Wrestler of the Week honors.
Cornell bounced back from a loss to Lehigh as the Big Red dominated Army West Point 28-10. Cornell won four decisions by three points or less, including two in sudden victories.
Harvard tallied four pins by
Dom Mata, Nick Marcenelle, Dillon Murphy and
Lukus Stricker to top Sacred Heart, 39-6, after losing the day prior to Bucknell.
Princeton topped No. 6 Arizona State in a pair of bookend wins by
Patrick Glory and
Luke Stout to bounce back into the national top 20 programs.
