Ivy League Announces Cross Country Major Awards

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Ivy League announces major award winners following the 2021 Ivy League Cross Country Heptagonal Championship.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Harvard’s Alex Gibby and Princeton’s Jason Vigilante have been named the 2021 Ivy League Coach of the Year after their teams captured Ivy League titles during last Saturday’s championship.
 
The Crimson were crowned the women’s champions for the first time since 2016, recording a runaway 37 points, 31 points ahead of second-place Princeton. It is Harvard’s eighth Ivy League title overall. All five of their scorers finished in the top 12, highlighted by sophomore Isabell Sagar’s third-place finish and freshman Maia Ramsden’s fifth-place finish with times of 20:31.8 and 20:43.5, respectively. Under Gibby’s guidance in 2019, both the women’s and men’s cross country programs qualified for the NCAA Championships for the first time in program history.
 
Vigilante’s Tigers captured their first men’s title since 2018 , their 22nd title in program history, finishing 15 points ahead of second-place Harvard. Princeton finished five in the top-nine, highlighted by 2020 Olympian senior Ed Trippas finishing with a personal best 8k time of 23:26.3. Kevin Berry, Anthony Monte, Matthew Farrell and Jakob Kintzele secured third, sixth, eighth and ninth place, respectively. Trippas, Berry and Monte all earned first-team All-Ivy honors. Vigilante last was named Coach of the Year in 2018, he went on to lead the Tigers to a Triple Crown.
 
Both Gibby’s and Vigilante’s squads advance to the NCAA Northeast Regional set to be held on Friday, November 12. Harvard will be competing in the Northeast Regional at their home of Franklin Park, while Princeton will be competing in the Mid-Atlantic Regional at Lehigh University.



ACADEMIC ALL-IVY
The Ivy League released its list of student-athletes selected for 2021 Cross Country Academic All-Ivy honors today. The 16 men and women were key contributors on an officially recognized varsity team with 3.0 or better cumulative grade point averages. Each institution nominated one member from their women's and men's program from their eligible student-athletes.

Katherine Dokholyan (Sr. – Chapel Hill, N.C.)
Cognitive Science
Led Brown’s pack for the third time this season with a 23rd place finish of 21:26.2 at the 2021 Ivy League Heptagonal Championship; finished first or second in Brown’s pack in all six meets this season.
 
Jared Yabu (Sr. – Moraga, Calif.)
Biology
Jared led Brown’s pack by finishing 27th overall at the 2021 Ivy League Heptagonal Championships (24:59.6).
 
Columbia:
Linnea Kavulich (Sr. – Scappoose, Ore.)
Neuroscience; Pre-Med
Was one of five scorers for the Lions at the 2021 Ivy League Cross Country Heptagonal Championship.
 
Tyler Berg (Jr. – Ballston Lake, N.Y.)
Computer Science
Finished 11th at the 2021 Ivy League Cross Country Heptagonal Championship; earned second-team All-Ivy honors.
 
Cornell:
Isa Meyers (Sr. – Seattle, Wash.)
English and Feminist Gender and Sexuality Studies
Meyers captained her team; turned in a 6k PR of 21:02.7 at Paul Short Run this season
 
Matt Fusco (Sr. – Amawalk, N.Y.)
Computer Science
Led the Big Red both on the course and as a captain; turned in an 8k PR of 23:56.0 at Paul Short; Finished 16th at the 2021 Ivy League Heptagonal Championship.
 
Dartmouth:
Isabella Chao (Sr. – Lafayette, Calif.)
Geography
Chao finished 23rd in the season opening race for the Big Green; came in 59th place at the Ivy League Championship.
 
Colin Donnely (So. – Hampton, N.H.)
Undeclared
Helped secure a 5th place finish at the 2021 Ivy League Heptagonal Cross Country Championship; fourth scorer for Dartmouth at Battle of Beantown (62nd, 25:30) and Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational (197th, 25:38).
 
Harvard:

Finished third overall at Ivy League Heptagonal Championships; helped guide women’s cross country to first place finish at the 2021 Ivy League Cross Country Heptagonal Championship.

Senior captain and top finisher for the Quakers in all races competed in this season for the men’s XC team; Earned First-Team All-Ivy for the first time in his career this year, finishing seventh overall.

2021 second-team All-Ivy; helped Princeton finish second as a team at the 2021 Ivy League Cross Country Heptagonal Championship.

2021 First-Team All-Ivy; finished third at the 2021 Ivy League Cross Country Heptagonal Championship to help Princeton to the 2021 Ivy League title.
