Dartmouth Softball Alumnae Becomes First Black Female Coach for a MLB Organization

PRINCETON, N.J -- Recently, Dartmouth Softball alumnae Bianca Smith ’12 was hired as the first Black female coach in Major League Baseball’s 151-year history by the Red Sox organization.
 
Smith will primarily work with the position players of the rookie-level affiliate team, the Gulf Coast League Red Sox, in Fort Myers, Florida.
 
Previously, Smith interned within the baseball operations department with the Texas Rangers and Cincinnati Reds, as well as working for MLB in amateur administration. In addition, she served as a graduate assistant and director of baseball operations at Case Western Reserve, was hired by the University of Dallas as an assistant coach and was the assistant baseball coach and hitting coordinator at Carroll University.
 
Smith graduated from Dartmouth in 2012 with a degree in sociology. While at Dartmouth, Smith was the manager for the Big Green Baseball team before walking onto the softball team her junior year. She appeared in 17 games scoring eight runs. Her senior year, an injury prevented her from game action.
