Softball All-Ivy, Postseason Awards Announced

PRINCETON, N.J. – Dartmouth junior Micah Schroder, Harvard senior Katie Duncan, Penn freshman Emma Nedley and Columbia head coach Jennifer Teague took home the Ivy League softball postseason awards after a vote by the League’s eight head coaches.

Schroder is the fourth Big Green to be named Player of the Year, joining Morgan McCalmon (2014) and Katie McEachern (2015, 2016). Schroder led the League in batting average, hitting .473 (530-for-112), with 24 runs, 10 doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 40 RBI. She slugged an Ivy-best .786 on the year and led the League with a .535 on-base percentage. In conference play, Schroder paced the Ivies in batting average (.586), slugging percentage (1.014), on-base percentage (.638), hits (41), RBI (33) and total bases (71). Schroder also earned unanimous first-team All-Ivy second base accolades.

Duncan is the Ivy League Pitcher of the Year for the second-straight season, the sixth Ivy to accomplish the feat and second from Harvard, joining Rachel Brown (2011, 12). Duncan led the League with 16 victories, accounting for almost 70 percent of her team’s total wins. She struck out an Ivy-best 93 batters and posted a 2.73 ERA on the year. In League play, Duncan posted 13 wins and 58 strikeouts in 19 appearances, all League-bests. She also was a unanimous first-team All-Ivy pitcher for the second-consecutive year.

Nedley is the sixth Quaker to receive Rookie of the Year honors and third in the last six seasons. She hit .435 in Ivy play (17-for-69), with 17 runs, five doubles, one triple, three home runs and 17 RBI, slugging .667. She also walked four times and stole nine bases. Overall, the rookie hit .386 (49-for-127) with 26 runs, 23 RBI, eight doubles, two triples, five home runs and seven walks. Nedley also was a unanimous selection to the first-team All-Ivy outfield.

Teague earns her first-ever Coach of the Year award after guiding the Lions to their first-ever postseason appearance. Columbia finished the regular season 24-19, including a 15-6 Ivy mark, marking the most League wins in program history. The Lions earned a spot to the Ivy League Playoff Series for the first time and will take on Harvard in the best-of-three series.

Columbia led the way with four first team honorees, the most in a single season in program history, including freshman pitcher Alexa Pinarski, sophomore third base Max Ortega, sophomore shortstop Maria Pagane and junior designated player/utility Sommer Grzybek. Penn and Princeton each put three on the first team. For the Quakers, junior pitcher Jennifer Brann and sophomore outfielder Kayla Ketring joined Nedley, while the Tigers were represented by senior catcher Keeley Walsh, senior first base Kaylee Grant and junior outfielder Megan Donahey.

Yale senior Terra Jerpbak took home the final first team spot as the pitcher/utility player. Cornell junior Bridgette Rooney was named second-team All-Ivy first base and Brown saw a pair of players earn honorable mention status in freshman pitcher Lauren Innerst and senior designated player/utility Cat Seitz.

Columbia and Harvard will square off in the Ivy League Playoff Series, with game one on Friday and games two and possibly three on Saturday. The action will begin both days at 1:30 p.m.
