CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Harvard claimed sole possession of the 2019 Ivy League softball championship with a walk-off win over Cornell on Monday, giving the Crimson its sixth outright title and first since 2012.
The Crimson, which shared the championship with Dartmouth last season, finished the regular season 16-5 to hold off its
2019 Ivy League Softball Playoff Series opponent, Columbia (15-6), for the title. The best two-out-of-three Playoff Series will begin with a single game on Friday, May 10, at 1:30 p.m., followed by a possible double-header on Saturday, beginning also at 1:30 p.m.
After moving game three of its series with Cornell to Monday because of weather, Harvard completed the sweep of the Big Red and claimed the outright title with a walk-off win as senior
Erin Lockhart hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to plate freshman
Mackenzie Tyler and give the Crimson the 9-1 win and the championship.
