Big Performances in Series Wins Lead to Softball Weekly Awards for Dartmouth, Penn

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Dartmouth’s Micah Schroder and Penn’s Jennifer Brann and Emma Nedley swept the Ivy League softball weekly awards after leading their teams to key series victories.
 
In the latest national statistical rankings, Brown’s Madi Cranford is 17th with a .448 batting average, while her teammate Cat Seitz is 22nd with 0.38 doubles per game and Dartmouth’s Schae Nelson is 24th with 0.13 triples per game. Penn’s Lucy Yang is 15th nationally with .79 walks per game, while Harvard’s Alissa Hiener is 25th with three saves.
 
Penn (8-4 Ivy) took over the top spot in the Ivy League standings after sweeping Cornell (2-7 Ivy) this past weekend. Columbia (6-3 Ivy), Harvard (6-3 Ivy) and Princeton (6-3 Ivy) are all tied for second and one game back in the loss column of the Quakers. The Crimson took two of three from the Lions to move into a tie for second-place, while the Tigers swept Brown (1-8 Ivy). Last year’s co-champion Dartmouth (3-6 Ivy) won its first series of the 2019 season, taking two of three from Yale (7-5 Ivy).
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Micah Schroder, Dartmouth (Jr., 2B – Houston)
  • Schroder led the Big Green to a 2-1 series win over Yale, hitting .833 (10-for-12) with two doubles, one home run and a 1.250 slugging percentage
  • She scored six runs, plated seven more, and swiped a base
  • Schroder recorded at least three hits, one run and one RBI in all three games in the series, including a 4-for-4, three-run, three-RBI performance during game 2
  • Schroder earns her first career Player of the Week honor and second Ivy League weekly award, as she was Rookie of the Week on Feb. 27, 2017
  • Schroder’s sister Merris is a member of the No. 4-ranked Alabama softball team

  • Brann made three appearances last week, starting twice during the Quakers’ sweep of Cornell
  • She pitched two complete-game shutouts, allowing just eight baserunners in 10.0 innings of work, with seven hits and one walk. She went 2-0 and posted an ERA of 0.00
  • Brann struck out eight Big Red hitters and limited Cornell to a .189 batting average
  • She also pitched two innings against Villanova, giving up just one hit while limiting opposing batters to .143 at the plate
  • Brann is the third Penn pitcher to be named Pitcher of the Week, joining Tabitha Dyer (March 4, March 11) and Julia Longo (March 25)
  • Brann, whose twin sister Elizabeth plays softball at UT-Dallas, has worked as a residential teacher assistant at the Julian Krinsky Camps, explaining statistical concepts and R coding techniques to high school students

  • Nedley hit .647 in four games, going 11-for-17 with two doubles, a triple, a home run and a 1.059 slugging percentage, with five runs and 11 RBI
  • In Penn’s three-game sweep of Cornell, Nedley batted .750 (9-for-12) with two doubles, a triple, a home run, a slugging percentage of 1.333, three runs and 10 RBI
  • She recorded multiple hits in all four games on the week, including a 4-for-4, 1 run, 5 RBI performance in the third and final game of the Cornell series
  • Nedley also went 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI in the Quakers’ game against local rival Villanova
  • She earns her second Rookie of the Week honor and first as the solo recipient, as she shared the award on March 4
  • Besides being a four-year letterwinner and senior captain in high school, Nedley was also a Community Action Program member, Treasurer of the National Honor Society, President of Students Against Destructive Decisions and a member of the Society of Women Engineers
