PRINCETON, N.J. -- For the second-straight year, two Ivies were among the 25 seniors selected in the
Women’s Professional Lacrosse League Spring Draft.
Princeton senior attacker
Elizabeth George, who was named 1-of-25 nominees for the Tewaaraton Award Thursday, added to her banner week, becoming the Ivy League’s highest-ever selection in the WPLL Draft, which is in its second year. George was the 11th overall pick by the New York Fight.
George has accumulated 160 points during her Princeton career, via 123 goals and 37 assists, and has set career-highs in goals (43), assists (21) and points (64) during her senior season.
Yale senior attacker
Izzy Nixon was taken 23rd overall by the New England Command.
Nixon has tallied 83 points during her Yale career, via 57 goals and 26 assists, and owns the Ivy League single-season record with 149 draw controls during her senior campaign.
The senior selections bring the tally of Ivies in the five-team WPLL to nine. Princeton paces all Ivies with five alumna in the upstart league, followed by Cornell (1), Harvard (1), Penn (1) and Yale (1).
The WPLL is made up of five teams—the Baltimore Brave, New England Command, New York Fight, Philadelphia Fire and Upstate Pride. Home to 125 of the top post-collegiate female lacrosse players in the world, the WPLL recently
struck a deal with ESPN to broadcast all regular-season WPLL contests on ESPN3 and the championship game on ESPNU.
Penn’s
Emily Rogers-Healion (14th, New England Command) and
