PRINCETON, N.J. — The top-two seeds of the Ivy League Women's Lacrosse Tournament will meet in Sunday’s championship game as No. 1 Princeton and No. 2 Yale both recorded thrilling semifinal wins on Friday evening.
Princeton 17 – Brown 16
Princeton’s
Meg Morrisroe had the game-winning goal to secure the top-seeded Tigers’ path into the championship game with a one-goal win over Brown. Morrisroe's goal came with only 41 seconds remaining in the game off an assist from
Haven Dora.
In a back-and-forth match that saw three lead changes throughout the day, Princeton saw itself down by as many as four goals on three separate occasions, but climbed back each time to secure the win. The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead early, but Brown responded with a run of their own to lead 7-3 at the end of the first period. From there, Brown held on to an 11-7 lead heading into halftime thanks to a goal by
Leah Caputo.
The third quarter was owned by the Tigers as Princeton outscored Brown 8-1 in the frame and held a 15-12 lead heading into the fourth. Up 16-12 in the final quarter, the Tigers saw their lead dwindle as the Bears’
Greta Criqui scored two straight goals, and then saw Caputo and
Ruby Sliwkowski scored two more to even it up at 16. After nearly three minutes of scoreless action, Morrisroe saw the back of the net for the Princeton win.
The duo of
Jami MacDonald and
McKenzie Blake led the way for the Tigers with five goals each, while Caputo recorded a game-high six goals for the Bears. In net,
Anne Booth had eight saves with 15 goals allowed in 43:08 for Brown, while Princeton’s
Elizabeth Gonnella recorded the win with nine goals allowed and eight saves.
Yale 11– Penn 10
Two last-minute goals from Jenna Collignon and Taylor Lane helped second-seeded Yale overcome a late deficit and vault their way into Sunday's championship final.
Both teams exchanged goals throughout the first half as Penn held on to a one goal lead entering the third at 5-4. In the third quarter, a pair of
Keeley Block goals from Penn gave the Quakers an 8-5 lead. The Bulldogs would not see the match tied until they rallied back to make it 9-9 with 8:58 to go after a goal by
Fallon Vaughn.
Penn's
Patricia Columbia-Walsh gave her team the one-goal advantage with just under a minute left, but the Bulldogs found a way to retake and secure the win with the pair of goals to close it out.
Taylor Block recorded a game-high four goals for Yale, while Block tallied a team-high three goals for Penn. In net, Penn’s
Orly Sedransk had 11 saves on 11 goals allowed in the loss. Yale’s
Niamh Pfaff had six saves and 10 goals allowed in the win.
