Columbia, Dartmouth Sweep Softball Weekly Awards

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Columbia and Dartmouth swept the first Ivy League softball weekly awards of 2019.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sommer Grzybek, Columbia (Jr., OF – Cooper City, Fla.)
  • Grzybek batted .467 (7-for-15) in five games for the Lions, scoring six runs and knocking in five more
  • She hit four home runs over the five games for a slugging percentage of 1.267 and walked once for an on-base percentage of .500
  • She recorded at least one hit in all five games, including two in the Lions’ wins over Monmouth and FIU
  • Both her hits against FIU went over the wall, as she went 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI
  • Grzybek receives her third career Player of the Week honor
  • Grzybek’s sister Stormi played softball at South Florida
PITCHER/CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Madie Augusto, Dartmouth (Fr., P – Navato, Calif.)
  • Augusto had a sparkling start to her collegiate career, going 1-1 with a 1.17 ERA in four appearances
  • She threw 12.0 innings, giving up just three runs, two earned, with 11 strikeouts
  • She pitched 5.1 innings of scoreless softball while picking up the win against Radford, striking out six in the process
  • Augusto was named San Francisco Player of the Year by the San Francisco Chronicle in 2018
CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Bryce West, Dartmouth (Fr., INF – Cypress, Texas)
  • West also saw her career get off to a fast start, hitting .357 (5-for-14) in five games with four runs, five RBI a triple and a home run
  • She recorded at least one hit in four of the five games, including a 2-for-3, 1-3B, 2-run, 2-RBI performance in the Lions’ win over Radford
  • West recorded her first collegiate home run in Columbia’s victory over Charleston Southern
  • West, a three-time All-Academic honoree in high school, is interested in studying Biology with the goal of becoming a doctor
